The Amarillo S. P. C. A. always has been a local organization serving the Amarillo area.  We are not associated with the national organization American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.  Therefore we do not receive any financial support from them, we rely solely on our local sponsors to keep our shelter running.  We started over 20 years ago and for some time we were even without a shelter, forcing our animals into the loving care of those who were able to foster.
 
    In 2003, we moved to a small building on the corner of 3rd & Lincoln, next to downtown Amarillo, which was certainly better, but still, there was room for improvement. Finally, we found our wonderful forever home at 11901 S. Coulter. Our shelter now has 53 kennel runs, 12 puppy cages, 5 exercise yards, and room for about 30 cats!

We have some wonderful plans for improving this great space.  We have a pet cemetery already at the location and hope to add a pet sanctuary for our wonderful pets that are unable to be placed into a forever home.
