Adoption
Information

Dogs and cats are available for adoption at our shelter Tuesday through Friday from 1-5 pm or by appointment. The Amarillo S. P. C. A. also has pets available at PetSmart every Saturday from 1-5 pm. Cats are available at PetSmart during all business hours.

Requirements

In order to adopt one of our animals, you must first fill out a Pre-screening form, which includes details of your housing and fencing. If you rent, you must have the approval of your landlord, and include their contact information. You must also present a current copy of your driver's license--the address must match the address on the application.
We reserve the right to deny an adoption for any reason!

Fees

The adoption fees are as follows, which include spaying or neutering, worming, rabies, micro-chipping, and shots current up to when the pet is adopted.

Fees vary depending on the individual animal between $45.00 and $125.00

If the pet is too young to be sterilized (must be at least 4 months), there are several options that you can choose. You can either return the pet to us when it comes of age and we will take it our vet, Timber Creek Small Animal Hospital, or if you prefer, you may take the pet to your vet of choice and we will present you with a discount voucher.
You must sign a sterilization agreement!

Foster Program

If you're not sure about how a particular pet will do in your home, we have a temporary foster program for your convenience. Temporary fostering is for adult dogs only. You must sign a foster agreement, and check back with us weekly to report the progress.

In addition to temporary fostering, you may come in and fill out an application if you wish to assist the Amarillo SPCA by fostering one of our animals to increase their chances of finding a forever home. You will be required to bring the pet to PetSmart every Saturday from 1-5 PM.
