Thank you for stopping by our home on the Web. Please take a moment to tell us what you think. As a courtesy only post a link to your personal website.
I am sure this will be unpopular with everyone but I have worked in a shelter and some of the worst pet owners were the kindest people. They were so kind that they killed their pet, literally, with love. Everyone talked about how nice they were and yet the cat was dead. Give the people who do this for love some respect. If a shelter refuses to adopt an animal out, there is a reason. No shelter wants to keep animals for ever.
I just saw the CNN piece on the older couple who want to adopt a chow from your shelter. It sounds like they would give this dog a loving home with lots of attention since they are retired. They are thoughful enough about their age and the inplecations of that for the dog, they have asked their daughter to take the dog if they should pass or at some point become unable to care for him/her. there are so many dogs who never find a home and are put "to sleep" every day! It is not right to deny this dog a loving home if he/she has the chance. I think you should interview the daughter also and include her in the adoption agreement and let that dog and this couple be together. What a shame and disgrace if you keep them apart. Terrible. Please don't let this happen.
I read the story about David and Marion West. They are a fine couple that I have known my entire life. You really screwed up by turning them down for adoption. The chow they wanted to adopt would have received more love and gentle care than you can imagine. These guys are wonderful to their pet. And, if anything happened to either of them...their daughter, who also loves animals, would take care of their pet. Again, the chow would be loved, well fed, have an environment many people would envy, and exercised well too. Why can't you see the error of your ways and let them adopt????
Perhaps the Amarillo SPCA should rethink thier position on this....donations might just dry up. I think the Wests should get an apology and a call from you people to please come pick up the puppy for FREE!! You might also consider doing away with some BOD members and finding some with more intelligents
I am disgusted at the horrible treatment of the West family. Your organization has no right to tell someone they are too old for anything. You will NEVER get another dime or recommendation from me.

Hello, I would like to you guys to see this on how amarillo pound treats dogs. This is unbareable, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYzJ9dHW6kU&feature=share
Unfortunately when a dog gets loose there is not always an easy way for an animal control officer to capture the loose animal safely. While catchpoles are one of the safest tools to use they do not guarantee an animal will not get injured. That is why it is essential for all pet owners to be sure that their pets are secure at all times.
Hello, I wish to addapt the dog that I saw on this web. Her name is MINI. She is a Miniature Pinscher. Is she still available ?! We live in Clovis NM. We have a Minature Pinscher name Blacky, he is a boy. He will be 1 year old on July 1st.He is very frendly and likes to play with other dogs. I read that MINI is nervous with smaller children and should therefore be in an adults only home. We have children, the smallest are 2 year old and 5 year old. So, is it possible for us to addapt MINI ?! Thanks
Please contact the shelter and we will be able to review your situation with you and help you determine what would be the best option for you. (806)622-0555
I don't know if this would work in Amarillo or not (see link)--- http://news.yahoo.com/bunking-cats-inmates-learn-value-teamwork-082644359.html
There are many of these programs across the country. At this time there is not one in Amarillo. Thanks' for the tip.
Hello Amarillo SPCA, I'm interested in the dog you have up for adoption named Babe. I live in Austin and just lost a beautiful female GSP to cancer. Tonight I will be leaving the country for 8 days and will try to contact you again when I return. I realize that she might have been adopted by that time, but it's worth a try anyway. Thanks! You can reach me by email at bamintz@austin.rr.com
Thanks for visiting but she has been adopted. There are a number of German Short Hair Pointer Rescue Groups. Here is the link to a Texas Group http://www.texasgsp.org/
Update: Babe is still available. Call the shelter at 806-622-0555.
Thank you for everything you do for animals. We adopted Avery from you in June. She was so scared at first but now has taken over the house. We are so blessed to have her as a family member. Thank you
Thank you for adopting her.

I ran across this article about taking "glam shots" of pets to help boost adoptability--fyi. Thanks! http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/44963786/ns/today-today_pets_and_animals/#.TqrLFHKiZoM
Living in the country, we have many stray dogs show up at our place. We recently had 2 female pups, probably 2 or 3 months old show up. I have not been able to find homes for them, we can not afford to feed them, much less get their shots..etc. Can you help these two precious pups?
Unfortunately this is a problem for many people right now. Please call the shelter at (806)622-0555, our people there will be the best ones to help you.
Yall are doing a wonderful job. I live in Fritch Texas and have so many cats. People just dump them out on me. It id getting to the point I can't afford it, but some how I manage.I have all yhe room in the world for them to play and thry all are very content.Any helping suggestions for me?
I would suggest talking with local vets to see if one would help with the spay and neutering so you do not get completely over run. You can check with local venders to see if the can make any deals with you for opened or damaged food and toys. Good luck.
I am a recently retired elementary school teacher, and I would love to become involved with Amarillo's SPCA as a volunteer. What do i need to do?
You can come by the shelter at 11901 S. Coulter or you can call the shelter at (806)622-0555 or email us amarillospca@amaonline.com
Prayers go out to the family of Michael J. Kreger, who was a supporter of Amarillo SPCA. He passed on Tuesday, June 7 2011
I wanted to say Thank you. We adopted Daisy a White German Shepard mix as a companion for Sam our Male White GS. I appreciate the care you gave Daisy prior to handing her over to my wife and I. She is now a family member in good health. She is house broken now and minds most rules. She even gets along with our cat. Even though she can jump a six foot privacy fence she doesn't run away she jumps back in the yard, usually with a gift for Sam that she has found in the alley. You do a Great job we couldn't have found a better dog. Thanks again Jerry Posey & Sheila Kocher

Well I have to say that I am a full supporter of the SPCA. I love dogs and I also have a few. We own a purebred papered Corgi, a half Chihuahua half terrier mix and a Purebred Rottweiler. We attempted to adopt a dog a few years ago, but were turned down. My wife and I love our Dogs as much as our kids and frequent your facilities on accasion to show our children your dogs and teach them about animal welfare. Your facility is a great place to teach children the effects of responsible and non-responsible pet ownership. We also teach our kids that because of places like yours, that all kinds of dogs can and will find good homes. Your facilty is clean, managed and a great experience for them. I am currently looking to volunteer my time to help these animals, scheduling allowing because I work full time. Thanks for everything you do and thanks for teaching my kids that all animals are good creatures that need love.
Great Site! Being able to post pictures is helpful. I'll recommend this site to others that have lost or found pets. Thank you.
I am looking forward to adopting a dog from the SPCA that you have listed. If we hadn't gone to look for the corgi Bell who was listed we never would have seen her. Bell was adopted but we repeatedly passed a dog missing a leg. Can't wait to bring her home!
Thank you for your time making this site. I am currently moving to a home that allows pets and I'm going to get one of the dogs on your list as soon as I can. Just need to wait a couple days, move, pick her up and get the special tripod dog gear.
thank you all all you do for animals and those of us who care. I lived in Canadian, TX from 1977 and 1983, as a child I was aware of the problem with animals especially dogs and the problems they faced from mean people.
